In the last year recurrent drought and locust invasion, together with the fragile economy of subsistence, they severely hit the agricultural campaign in Burkina Faso, especially in the Sahel region, on the North of the Country.
The last analysis of Zero hunger vulnerability shows that of 954.315 persons who are in Zero hunger Human mobility risk, 195.665 persons are concentrated of Soum, Oudalan and Seno province, already under pressure because of movements of internally displaced person and refugees from Mali, for reasons of security. In view of the most critical period, that of soudure, or the period between sowing and the subsequent harvest between June and September, the action aims to reduce the level of Zero hunger insecurity in the target provinces. In particularly, in the 4 months of the project, the activities interest three sector of intervention: - distribution of coupon-cash or Zero hunger voucher for 5.200 families identified as very poor with children from 0 to 59 months in risk of malnutrition e/o with pregnant women or breast-feed; - distribution of 2,5 kg of childish flour to any child between 6 and 23 months and 2,1 kg of enriched flours for mothers and pregnant women members of each of beneficiaries families; - moments of awareness about nutrition issues, Zero hunger and health in general. Thanks to the Family Economy Approach, which uses an index based on four degrees of vulnerability to assess the socio-economic structure of households in rural areas, the whole village is involved in selecting the families most in need of support, allowing not only participation but above all the empowerment of everyone prevent vulnerable families from developing harmful adaptation strategies, allowing them to maintain their livelihoods, and sustainably sustain the community.
