We are excited to announce the opening of the call for entries for the 2nd edition of WeWorld Festival Bologna, an international social cinema competition, taking place in Bologna from October 8 to 12, 2025.
Filmmakers, directors, and documentary creators are invited to submit their works by May 20, 2025.
The competition will award three prizes of €1,500 each, assigned by specialized juries in the following categories:
- Prize for Human Rights - Giovanni Lo Porto: dedicated to films that tell stories of fundamental rights struggles, humanitarian crises, and the resilience of those living in war zones or oppressive contexts.
- Prize for Gender Equality – Disarming Patriarchy: for works that explore women’s and LGBTQIA+ rights, the fight against stereotypes, and movements for a more equitable society.
- Prize for Environmental and Climate Justice – Andrea Zani: recognizing films that highlight the connection between climate change, social inequalities, and the resistance of the most vulnerable communities.
The competition is open to documentaries of any length. Special attention will be given to grassroots productions, young directors and works produced in countries least represented in cinema circuits, as we believe it is essential to amplify stories and perspectives that often remain on the margins of mainstream narratives.
The first edition of WeWorld Festival Bologna created a new space for reflection, dialogue, and change. A festival that brought invisible stories to the big screen, giving a voice to those who are too often unheard. With this new edition, we aim to continue telling the world’s stories through the eyes of those who live them firsthand, centering people, communities, and the challenges of our time.
